Anthropic has launched a new Science Blog dedicated to the intersection of AI and scientific discovery. The platform will showcase internal research, collaborations with external labs, and practical workflows for scientists integrating AI into their research.

Compressing the 21st Century

A core part of Anthropic’s mission is accelerating scientific progress. This initiative aligns with the concept of a "compressed 21st century," where AI enables decades of breakthroughs to occur within just a few years.

Early signs of this acceleration are already emerging:

  • Mathematics: AI assisting in the discovery of new proofs.
  • Computational Analysis: Individual researchers running complex analyses that previously required full teams.
  • Biology: Identifying functional gene relationships across datasets of millions of cells.

Shifting the Scientific Bottleneck

Just as computers automated computation, AI is now taking on aspects of cognition. This shift allows work that once required years of specialized training to be completed faster and more cost-effectively.

However, challenges remain. While AI shows superhuman capabilities in certain areas, it is still prone to hallucinations and can struggle with tasks that a domain expert would find trivial. As the bottleneck shifts from "execution" to "management," the blog will explore sociological questions regarding the role of scientific institutions and the future of research apprenticeships.

Content Categories

The blog will feature three primary types of posts:

  • Features: In-depth articles on specific scientific results and the role AI played in achieving them.
  • Workflows: Practical guides for researchers to implement AI across natural and formal sciences.
  • Field Notes: Roundups of industry developments, new tools, and open research questions.

Science Initiatives at Anthropic

Anthropic continues to support the community through several programs, including AI for Science, which provides API credits to high-impact projects, and Claude for Life Sciences, tailored for R&D teams in pharma and biotech. The company is also a core partner in the Genesis Mission, a multi-billion-dollar initiative to accelerate American science through AI.

Anthropic invites researchers to share feedback and topic suggestions at scienceblog@anthropic.com.
