Anthropic Unveils "Computer Use": Claude Now Operates Your PC via Remote "Dispatch"

Anthropic announced a breakthrough capability for Claude: the power to interact with your computer just like a human. By perceiving the screen and executing mouse clicks and keystrokes, Claude can now complete complex tasks across any application. This release is paired with Dispatch, a new feature that allows users to assign these tasks from a mobile device to their desktop.

1. Assign Tasks from Anywhere with "Dispatch"

The synergy between the mobile and desktop experience is the core of this update. Through Dispatch, currently available in Claude Cowork and Claude Code, users can initiate a task on their phone and have Claude execute it on their computer.

• Remote Delegation: While on the go, you can tell Claude to "check my emails" or "pull weekly metrics."
• Background Execution: Claude's desktop instance receives the instruction and begins navigating your computer's interface.
• Seamless Handoff: You can assign a task on your phone, turn your attention elsewhere, and later open your computer to find the finished work.

2. "Computer Use": AI that Points, Clicks, and Navigates

Unlike traditional AI integrations that require specific APIs, Claude’s new capability allows it to control the computer's cursor and keyboard directly.

• Human-like Interaction: Claude can open files, use a browser, and run developer tools by looking at what is on your screen.
• Intelligent Tool Selection: Claude first attempts to use precise "connectors" (like Google Calendar or Slack). If no direct integration exists, it switches to manual screen control to finish the job.

The "Computer Use" feature is currently in research preview for Claude Pro and Max subscribers.
