Google Labs Refreshes Stitch, Enhancing “Vibe Design” with AI-Powered UI Canvas
Google’s experimental division, Google Labs, has announced a major update to its AI-powered UI design tool, Stitch. The update builds on the existing “vibe design” concept, enabling users to generate high-fidelity interfaces from natural language while accelerating the workflow from design to prototype.
Starting UI Design with Natural Language
The latest Stitch version allows designers to start from business goals and intended user experiences rather than traditional wireframes. With “vibe design with Stitch,” AI quickly generates multiple UI variations based on user input, reference examples, or inspiration sources. This enables more iterations and higher-quality design outcomes.
Rustin Banks, Product Manager at Google Labs, explains, “Stitch maximizes the speed of ideas, expanding creativity from the earliest stages of the design process.”
Infinite Canvas and Design Agent
Stitch introduces an AI-native infinite canvas that accommodates text, images, code, and other assets, allowing ideas to grow into fully interactive prototypes.
A new design agent understands the context of the entire project, while the Agent Manager helps users explore multiple directions in parallel, keeping the design process organized and continuous.
DESIGN.md Enables Reusable Design Systems
The new DESIGN.md feature allows design rules to be managed and shared in Markdown format. Designers can extract a system from any website or apply it to a different project, reducing repetitive work. Built with AI collaboration in mind, it enhances productivity across teams.
Interactive Prototyping and Real-Time Feedback
Stitch converts static designs into interactive prototypes instantly. Screens can be connected, and the Play button allows users to preview user flows. Next screens are automatically suggested based on interactions, shortening the iteration and validation cycle from individual elements to full flows.
Voice-Driven Collaborative Design
A newly added voice interface allows users to speak directly to the canvas. AI generates and refines designs in real time, responding instantly to commands such as “show three menu options” or “change the color scheme of this screen,” enabling a dynamic, two-way design conversation.
From Design to Code
Through the MCP server and SDK, Stitch now integrates seamlessly with external development tools. AI-generated designs can be exported directly to code, maintaining collaboration between designers, AI, and developers and significantly reducing the time from concept to implementation.
AI Expands the Design Process
Josh Woodward, VP of Google Labs, calls AI a “partner in amplifying creativity.” Stitch goes beyond a UI generator, leveraging the “vibe design” concept to redefine the entire design process.
With this update, Stitch empowers designers and founders to transform ideas into reality faster and to validate prototypes collaboratively and efficiently.
