Perplexity Announces New Service “Personal Computer”: Mac mini as an Always-On AI Environment
On Wednesday, March 11, Perplexity announced a new service called “Personal Computer.” This service provides an environment where a user’s Mac mini runs continuously, integrating local apps and files with Perplexity’s AI capabilities.
The Personal Computer operates in a secure environment and can be accessed from any device. By connecting the Mac mini to Perplexity’s servers, it supports users’ work 24/7. The official video demonstrates examples such as file management, app operation, and integration with AI assistant features.
Currently, interested users must register on a waitlist for the initial cohort. Pricing and launch date have not been disclosed, but AI access may be tied to a Perplexity Pro or Max subscription. Since the service uses the user’s own Mac mini, no additional hardware costs from Perplexity are expected. Being software-based, the service is intended for global use.
This development comes as Apple’s Mac mini gains attention as an AI cloud computing platform. Apple is planning to begin manufacturing some Mac mini units in the U.S. later this year, likely driven by increasing demand for AI applications.
